Learn to Sail

If you are unsure if you are going to enjoy sailing of not we recommend you take a ‘taster’ session.  For this 3 hour lession we will take you out in our ‘Laser Stratos’.  Being a larger, more stable dinghy, it is the perfect introduction to the sport.  With an instructor on board, this is a fab way to spend half a day in Whitstable, and at £60 (per person), can make a gift that is never forgotten.

For those of you looking something more, the best place to start is a 2 day level 1 course.  This is usually done in our single handed Picos, although we can also teach the same course in our Stratos or Dart 16.

Level 1 begins with a little bit of onshore training, using our indoor simulator, then you will be sent to sea, closely supervised by your instructor from the safety boat!  By the end of the course you will able to rig a boat, ‘tack’ and ‘gybe’ to turn, sail up-wind and down-wind and learn some of the basic theory associated with sailing.  Level 1 is a 2 day course and costs £180 per person in a Pico or £210 in the Stratos or catamaran.

Level 2 is the next stage.  The focus of this course is to teach you to sail on your own.  We will teach you to launch and land, come along-side, pick up a buoy/man-overboard as well as some more in-depth sailing theory.  You will learn all about the ’5 essentials’ of sailing.  At the end of the course your Level 2 certificate will allow you to hire dinghies, both from us and other sailing centres.  Level 2 is also a 2 day course and costs £180 per person in a Pico or £210 in the Stratos or catamaran.

Other courses availabe include the new Level 3, as well as Seamanship, Day Sailing, Sailing with Spinnakers, Perfromance Sailing and Start Racing, just give us a ring to discuss your needs.  Private tuition at any level is also available (£30 per hour – minimum 1 1/2 hours).
